I believe I’ve always had a very, very mild interest in writing, however, the passing of a mentor who was very influential during my teenage years in conjunction with my having completed Frank Herbert’s six book Dune series seemed to prompt a sudden interest. Having been a fan of science fiction and fantasy for as long as I can remember, and having been given a recommendation to read Dune on multiple occasions from multiple sources, finally burrowing in provided new insights on not just what science fiction or fantasy could be, but, also, how one views the physical world. I found myself questioning meta systems in real life, holding those systems to the concepts Mr. Herbert had so eloquently unfolded and left for all to discover. It was inspiring to read the prose of someone who could relay such a wealth of information while still managing to unfurl an engaging and entertaining story.
The Dune saga was unlike anything I had read before and it left me… for lack of a better phrase, literaturically castrated. How could I read anything after finishing such a masterful piece of art? It was in this void that I discovered that if I wanted a great piece of art to read, perhaps I needed to create it myself. The recent death of a friend and mentor created the pallet from which I would begin to develop my own contribution to the annuls of science fiction. Or, at least, I hope it will contribute in some way. It has yet to be finished and can be found chapter by chapter in the posts on this site. So please, read and enjoy what will hopefully become the first installment in a space saga that helps fill my void and yours too.
